The WSEAS Conferences of May have recently taken place in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain  organized by the EUROPMENT andthe WSEAS. The meetings were chaired by important personalities Prof. Yuriy Shmality (IEEE Fellow), Ryszard Choras (Editor-in-Chief of the WSEAS Trans. on Signal Processing), Prof. Nikos E. Mastorakis, Prof. Zbingniew Klos (Plenary Speaker in EUROPMENT), Prof. Nikolai Krivulin, Prof. Jerzy Klamka, Prof. Vladimir Vasek (organizer of an important Workshop on Automatic Control in this event) Prof. Jeanann Boyce, Prof. V. Kazakov, Prof. Jiri Urbanek, Prof. H. Frantisek, Prof. G. Leonov, Prof. N. Kuznetsov, Prof. D. Trcek, Prof. Pekar Libor, and Prof. J.N.Valdes
The conferences series started in Rethymno, Greece, in July 2001 followed by the 2002 in Singapore; the third in Rethymno again in 2003 and the forth in Izmir, Turkey in 2004. Then we had Istanbul, Turkey, May 2006; Dallas, Texas, March 2007; Istanbul, Turkey, May 2008; Istanbul, Turkey, May 2009 and finally Catania, Italy, May 2010. The EUROPMENT and WSEAS conference provide a platform to discuss the theory and applications of applied and computational mathematics with emphasis on real applications, image search and processing, complex networks, knowledge discovery and new analysis in safety and security are, for example, important research areas of renewed and expanding interest. The current emphasis on computing and computational methods is a consequence of the general awareness of the need to solve numerous technical problems resulting from our modern society. This has resulted in the need to assess the impact of computational methods, systems theory and numerical analysis computing. The conferences addressed the topic of Computational Engineering and Computing in an integrated way, in accordance to the principles of stability, considering the practical and social of our new investments.  The usual assumption is that it is difficult to solve a physical, technical problem using only closed forms. The conference addressed these problems of primary importance to our academic society, discussing and proposing more constructive and progressive approaches.

Opening Addresses
Prof. Yuriy Shmality (IEEE Fellow), Ryszard Choras (Editor-in-Chief of the WSEAS Trans. on Signal Processing), Prof. Nikos E. Mastorakis, Prof. Zbingniew Klos (Plenary Speaker in EUROPMENT), Prof. Nikolai Krivulin, Prof. Jerzy Klamka, Vladimir Vasek (organizer of an important Workshop on Automatic Control in this event) all involved in WSEAS activities for more than seven years, gave short presentations regarding the role of the WSEAS, and in particular its objective of acting as a medium for transfer of knowledge amongst different partners, including academics and professionals. They stressed the future applications of many research ideas developed at the WSEAS, which are reflected in the growth of its Industrial Research Division. During the Official Gala Dinner (Banquet) the aforementioned well-known Professors referred to the importance of this type of meetings for the objectives of WSEAS and EUROPMENT, to act as a medium for knowledge transfer covering a wide range of disciplines. They  particularly mentioned the need for physical sciences to communicate with humanities and other important areas of human endeavour. The current problems of society will not be solved without effective transdisciplinary work. As they agreed, the work of WSEAS, does not attempt to replace or compete with those of other institutions, but WSEAS sees itself as complimentary to many different organizations around the world. The conferences and publications program of the WSEAS provides an important mechanism to achieve this objective. Many new initiatives at the WSEAS reflect its commitment to advanced research dissemination. All WSEAS Publications, including Journals and books, are now offered in digital format, aiming to reach an even wider audience.

Finally, Professor Mastorakis also pointed out the importance of the Journals launched by WSEAS and invited the authors to submit their original papers to WSEAS Transactions that are published in hard-copy and are the unique journals having the PDF of the papers open without charging with fees neither readers nor the authors.

Two successful special Sessions enhanced the papers of the conferences

The conference offered the delegates ample opportunity for interaction through a series of social functions and during dinner and coffee breaks.

The conference dinner took place in the Exotic Kiosk of the Hotel almost "on tha waves" and the guests could admire the ocean view. A great variety of many different courses, desserts and unlimited white and red wine with local and international music left an unforgettable  experience to WSEAS and EUROPMENT participants. The occasion was most enjoyable.

All the delegates attending these parallel conferences received
a) Book (hard-copy)

b) CD-ROM Proceedings of all the conferences

c) an additional CD-ROM with more than 80 books in PDF format

d) Username and Password for permanent access to the E-Library of WSEAS (Over than 40000 visits per month)

Best Conference Papers

WSEAS Journals:  The WSEAS Journals are entirely independent from the WSEAS Conferences, since they are currently candidates in ISI Web of Knowledge (all the WSEAS Conferences and Books have been already in ISI Web of Knowledge). Authors can send (upload) their papers to WSEAS Transactions regardless of whether they have attended a WSEAS conference or not. Also the WSEAS Transactions are the only open access journals in the world where the Authors do not pay any kind of registration fees or publication fees or "donation" (i.e. the full PDF files of the papers are permanantly open for everybody, without any restrictions, while the authors are not charged with any kind of fees). The Editors-in-Chief, being assisted by the members of the Editorial Boards, are the absolute decision makers for the acceptance or not of the submitted papers. WSEAS simply prints out the papers in hard copies & on the web.
