Plenary Lecture I
University Networking Through the Amateur Radio Communications
Dr. Miroslav Skoric
Abstract: The tutorial begins with basic information about the amateur radio communications and continues with studying one of the most popular computer-related radio communication modes: the VHF/UHF and HF "packet-radio" (other popular modes, like "amtor", "pactor", "g-tor", "clover" etc. are also mentioned as the options). The tutorial discusses (with examples) on how to choose hardware and software needed for establishing the amateur radio links - from either home or work - and how to maintain them at low cost. Finally, the tutorial leads the audience to build an AMUNET - the Amateur Radio University Network - a grid of radio stations within or between universities` campuses and surrounding schools. The AMUNET may also be a low-cost solution for education institutions in rural areas and developing countries.
Plenary Lecture II
“E-learning activities at the University of Bari”
Professor Sebastiano
IMPEDOVO
Full Professor of Operating Systems and of Intelligent Systems.
University
of Bari Via E. Orabona, 04
70126 Bari
– ITALY
Abstract: In this plenary lecture the description of the results of three main projects : Rete Puglia, SCORE and PROTEO projects is presented. More specifically the activities promoted and developed both for distance learning and e-learning are focused. The infrastructures that have been already realized are described and the results of the experimental use of the systems and platform are shown. At the end some considerations on the role of distance learning and e-learning activities to introduce everybody into the global village are stressed.
