Title of the Paper: Generalized PIO Design for Uncertain Discrete Time Systems

Authors: Addison Rios-Bolivar, Francklin Rivas

Abstract: Considering the uncertain discrete time systems of Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) type, in this paper an approach for the synthesis of robust Proporcional+Integral Observers (PIO) is presented. From LPV systems characterized with polytopical uncertainties, the method of design is based on considering a dynamics extended of the typical PIO, in order to transform the design of the matrices of the dynamics of the observer, as a design of the gain of Static Output Feedback (SOF) of a problem of robust control. Under these conditions and from the norms H2=H1 described as Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI), the criteria to obtain the gain in the SOF problem are established; taking into account performance indices in H2 and H1, under the presence of uncertainties and disturbances. In order to illustrate the results and the performance of the state robust estimation of states, some numerical examples are evaluated.

Title of the Paper: Prediction of Motorcycle Suspension Stroke through Dynamic Neural Networks

Authors: D. Capriglione, M. Carratu, C. Liguori, V. Paciello, P. Sommella

Abstract: Electronic instrumentation and sensors are extensively adopted on board of vehicles to prevent the road accidents and improve the overall driving experience. On the other hand, the development of fault detection strategies are usually carried out in order to limit the direct impact of electronics on the vehicle cost. To this aim the employment of the analytical redundancy of measurement information should be preferred. As an example of the systematic approach, the software sensor for the rear suspension of the two-wheeled vehicles is designed focusing on recurrent Artificial Neural Networks able to predict the dynamic behavior. Experimental results concerning with a typically adopted instrumentation set show the rear suspension elongation can be correctly estimated. They disclose the possibility of setting-up an effective Instrument Fault Detection and Isolation scheme based on the real-time adoption of the proposed software sensor in order to improve the system reliability.

Title of the Paper: Automatic Disturbances Rejection Control-Based Model Predictive Torque Control for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with Three-Phase Four-Switch Inverter

Authors: Qing-Fang Teng, Guo-Fei Li, Jian-Guo Zhu, You-Guang Guo

Abstract: A novel automatic disturbances rejection control (ADRC)-based Model predictive torque control (MPTC) strategy is developed for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with three-phase four-switch inverter. The dynamic model of PMSM with three-phase four-switch inverter is built. The ADRC and MPTC are respectively designed, the former being used to realize disturbance estimation and disturbance compensation while the latter being used to reduce torque and flux ripples. The resultant ADRC-based MPTC PMSM with unhealthy inverter, on the one hand, has fault-tolerant effective and has almost as dynamical performance as ADRC-based MPTC PMSM with healthy inverter, and on the other hand, compared with PI-based MPTC PMSM with unhealthy inverter, it possesses better command-following characteristics and disturbance rejection characteristics in the presence of variations of reference speed and load torque and its total harmonic distortion can be decreased. The simulation results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Title of the Paper: Stability Control of Electric Vehicles Based on a Novel Longitudinal Force Distribution Strategy and Smith Predictor

Authors: Huan Shen, Yunsheng Tan, Manhong Huang

Abstract: In this paper, a novel yaw moment control system is proposed to improve vehicle’s handling and stability. The control system includes reference model, DYC controller, Distributer, and Smith predictor. The reference model is used to obtain the desired yaw rate. The DYC controller determines the desired yaw moment by means of sliding-mode technique. The Distributer, based on maneuverability and comfort, distributes driving torque or braking torque according to the desired yaw rate. The Smith predictor based on linear vehicle model is used to solve the time delay problems caused by actuators and sensors/observers. The simulation results show that the proposed control algorithm can improve vehicle’s handling and stability effectively.

Title of the Paper: Parametric Controller Design and Optimization for a Brushless DC Motor System

Authors: Jinbo Lu, Xiaorong Hou, Min Luo

Abstract: In this paper, a research on the design of parametric controller has been presented for a brushless DC motor system, and the parameters of controller are optimized. Compared with PID, the overshoot of state curve is smaller, and the settling time is shorter. The symbolic computation and the cylindrical algebraic decomposition (CAD) are used in controller design and controller parameters calculation. Symbolic computation is applied to obtain the stable constraints for the controlled system. And the region of controller parameters can be solved by CAD, according to the constraints. The parameters of controller selected in the region will stabilize the brushless DC motor system. And then, the system dynamic performance can be optimized by a variable parameter control of designed controller. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method is highly effective in controlling the brushless DC motor system.

Title of the Paper: Research Reactive Current Detection Method for STATCOM Under Grid-Side Asymmetrical Faults

Authors: Hongsheng Su, Kai Chen, Xiaoyan Liang

Abstract: To aim at the deficiencies of traditional dii− q detection method of reactive current of STATCOM that will generate detecting error under grid-side asymmetrical faults. As being in asymmetrical voltage condition, there will have a phase angle difference existing used to calculate the value of the compensation commending current between the detected voltage and its positive sequence voltage. To solve the issue, a revised detection method is proposed which can offer an auxiliary phase difference α between positive sequence voltage and -axis, which offsets the detected errors, such that the control accuracy of STATCOM is improved, which is quite significant for safe operation of the wind power plant grid-connected. The simulation results show that the proposed method is effective and feasible.

Title of the Paper: The Modeling and Simulation Analysis on Four Corners Leveling System in Composite Material Hydraulic Press Based on AMESim/ADAMS

Authors: Heng Du, Jianxin Lin, Yuan Zhang, Xiangwu Lin

Abstract: Four corners leveling system is one of the key parts of composite material hydraulic press, whose performances determine the pros and cons of the pressing performances. Electro-hydraulic control system is the most critical aspect in affecting the control characteristics. The kinematics and dynamics models of four corners leveling system based on ADAMS were established, while electro-hydraulic control system model based on AMESim was built. The above-mentioned simulation models formed the united simulation models for four corners leveling system. The effects of key parameters on control characteristics, including the dead zone and hysteresis of proportional valve and the hydraulic cylinder leakage, were analyzed by simulation, and the influence laws of various parameters on the synchronization control precision were obtained. Simulation results show that the single cylinder, double-cylinder or multi-cylinder existing dead zone and hysteresis and leakage can affect the synchronization error. Comparing with the working condition of single cylinder, the multi-cylinder with dead zone, hysteresis and leakage can significantly cause larger synchronization error.

Title of the Paper: A Framework for the Implementation of Industrial Automation Systems Based on PLCs

Authors: Kleanthis Thramboulidis

Abstract: Industrial automation systems (IASs) are traditionally developed using a sequential approach where the automation software, which is commonly based on the IEC 61131 languages, is developed when the design and in many cases the implementation of mechanical parts have been completed. However, it is claimed that this approach does not lead to the optimal system design. Moreover, the IEC 61131 does not meet new challenges in this domain. The increased complexity of IASs and the requirement for improved product and process quality attributes impose the need for exploiting state of the art technologies in Mechatronics and Software Engineering. In this paper, a system engineering process based on the new version of IEC 61131, which supports Object Orientation, is presented. This approach adopts the synergistic integration of the constituent parts of mechatronic systems at the Mechatronic component level. Synergistic integration, component based development as well as key concepts of service and object orientation are properly integrated to define a solid framework for addressing the needs of today’s complex industrial automation systems. SysML and UML are utilized to introduce a higher layer of abstraction in the design space of IASs and Internet of Things (IoT) is considered as an enabling technology for the integration of the system’s components, bringing into the industrial automation domain the benefits of these technologies.

Title of the Paper: Research on a Cournot-Bertrand Triopoly Game Between the Upstream Firms and the Downstream Firm

Authors: Hongliang Tu, Junhai Ma, Lijian Sun

Abstract: In this paper, a new Cournot-Bertrand triopoly game between the upstream firms and the downstream firm is established, which is closer to the reality of the modern enterprises in the real economy. Using nonlinear dynamics and bifurcation theory, the local stable region of the Nash equilibrium point is obtained, and its complex dynamics are described by means of the bifurcation diagrams, the largest Lyapunov exponents and the phase portraits. The stability of the Nash equilibrium will change and even the complex dynamics such as doubling period bifurcation and chaos happen when the adjustment speed parameter exceeds a certain critical value. Furthermore, by using the straight-line stabilization method, the chaos can be eliminated. This paper has an important theoretical and practical significance to the enterprises under the background of globalization.

Authors: Khalid Fardousse, Hassan Qjidaa

Abstract: The present paper proposes a novel algorithm for recognition of handwritten forms. The object of this paper is the pattern recognition of handwritten craft motives images. It is appropriate in one the first time to transform the forms by a polygonal forms using polygonal approximation. In the next step, the extracted the chain-code features, this features as extracted from the contour of polygonal forms. Chain code is a sequence of code directions of a polygon form and connection to a starting point which is often used in image processing “8-neighborhood method has been implemented”. Aggregation chain code and the normalized chain code build the extracted feature vector for each image motive. These extracted features are used to train a feed-forward back-propagation neural network employed for performing classification and recognition tasks. Extensive simulation studies show that the recognition system using chain code features provides good recognition accuracy while requiring less time for training.

Title of the Paper: Implementation of Neural Network Based I cos φ Controller for DSTATCOM in Three Phase Four Wire Distribution System Under Varying Source and Load Conditions for Power Quality Improvement

Authors: J. Jayachandran, R. Murali Sachithanandam

Abstract: The application of power semiconductor devices in the area of power electronics and power system are the key factors which kindle the power quality problems particularly the harmonics, burden of reactive power and neutral current due to unbalance. The above citied power quality problems are predominant due to wide usage of 1-? / 3-? , linear and nonlinear loads which are fed from three phase four wire (3P4W) distribution system. The performance of the 3P4W distribution system can be enriched by mitigating the above mentioned problems with proper selection of a power quality compensator and control strategy. In this paper, DSTATCOM is chosen as power quality compensator which comprises of a three phase three leg Voltage source converter (VSC), a single phase active power filter (APF) and a DC bus capacitor. The proposed neural network based control strategy generates the reference supply current, so as to make the source supply only the real fundamental load current component (I cos ?, in which “I” refers the fundamental load current magnitude and cos ? refers the load displacement power factor). The DSTATCOM with neural network based control strategy mitigates harmonics, compensates reactive part of load current, ensures balanced and sinusoidal source current from the supply mains that are nearly in phase with the supply voltage even though there is an unbalance in the three phase load currents and source voltage conditions, compensates neutral current even under unbalanced linear and non-linear load conditions in 3P4W distribution systems. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller is also executed to keep up the voltage of the capacitor at the reference value under varying load and source conditions. The DSTATCOM performance is validated under unbalanced, linear/nonlinear loads for all possible conditions of the source like balanced, unbalanced, balanced/distorted and unbalanced/distorted source voltage conditions. The propounded neural network based control algorithm for DSTATCOM presented in this paper is simulated using MATLAB software. The simulation results prove the efficacy of the proposed neural network based control strategy under varying source and load conditions.

Title of the Paper: Path Planning Using Vehicle Slip Angle Prediction for Obstacle Avoidance Manoeuvres in Complex Driving Scenarios

Authors: Stratis Kanarachos, Georgios Chrysakis

Abstract: When an obstacle suddenly appears in the path of a vehicle a manoeuvre has to be executed to avoid it. In the future, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems will perform this task automatically. However, the plan and execution in real time of an obstacle avoidance manoeuvre is challenging because it has to not only avoid the obstacles but also fulfil additional requirements such as to remain within the road boundaries, satisfy acceleration and jerk limits, avoid excessive vehicle slip angles and respect actuators’ limitations. Most of the approaches proposed up to now relax the problem by considering only simple driving scenarios, such as lane change manoeuvres, and thus can’t handle complex driving situations. Furthermore, no consideration of the vehicle’s slip angle is being taken leading to paths that either cause instability or limit conservatively the maximum yaw rate. In this paper, for the first time, an obstacle avoidance manoeuvre planning method that includes a prediction of the vehicle’s slip angle is proposed. The methodology which is based on a finite element method can handle complex driving scenarios and enables the planning of paths that respect vehicle dynamics’ limitations. Numerical simulations using a linear bicycle model show the performance of the proposed method and its advantages compared to standard path planning methods.

Title of the Paper: Comparison of GSA, SA and PSO Based Intelligent Controllers for Path Planning of Mobile Robot in Unknown Environment

Authors: Pratap Kumar Panigrahi, Saradindu Ghosh, Dayal R. Parhi

Abstract: Now-a-days autonomous mobile robots have found applications in diverse fields. An Autonomous robot system must be able to behave in an intelligent manner to deal with complex and changing environment. This work proposes the performance of path planning and navigation of autonomous mobile robot using Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), Simulated Annealing (SA) and Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) based intelligent controllers in an unstructured environment. The approach not only finds a valid collision free path but also optimal one. The main aim of the work is to minimize the length of the path and duration of travel from a starting point to a target while moving in an unknown environment with obstacles without collision. Finally, a comparison is made between the three controllers. It found that the path length and time duration made by the robot using GSA is better than SA and PSO based controllers for the same work

Title of the Paper: Optimum Setting and Performance Evaluation of the Three Mode Controller Using Bio Inspired Soft Computing Algorithms

Authors: D. M. Mary Synthia Regis Prabha, G. Glan Devadhas, S. Pushpa Kumar

Abstract: The best possible and desirable solution of the engineering problems can be found using optimization algorithms. The most widely used dc-dc converters are highly non-linear dynamical systems. Designing a control technique has been a most promising control area. One of the robust non-linear sliding mode controllers has been proved by researchers to be having large signal stability and providing good dynamic response. But the complicated design of the controller as well as the problems encountered during practical implementation gives rise to the necessity to design a controller which gives better performance than the former case and simple in structure and design. The traditional linear three mode PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controllers which are the most common control algorithm in industries can be properly tuned so that they overcome the performance of the former case. The Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm and Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm have been used for tuning purpose. The best optimization algorithm has been identified and the effectiveness of the PID controller tuned using the best optimization algorithm over the sliding mode controller has been proved.

Authors: Mian Ashfaq Ali, Abdul Manan Khan, Chang-Soo Han

Abstract: It is well known fact that narrower vehicles have more susceptibility to rollover and lateral stability. For the purpose of experimenting and analysis when certain additional weight is added to the vehicle then the C.G changes which can result in vehicle rollover. In this study a novel braking based methodology is used to devise a strategy on g-g diagram to modify the driver’s commands of longitudinal acceleration in accordance with lateral acceleration to lateral stability. Potential field function is used to couple the lateral and longitudinal dynamics of vehicle for the purpose of lateral stability. The same method is applicable to mobile platform in autonomous mode of operation with ensured rollover stability.

Title of the Paper: A Novel Approach to Power System Stabilizer Tuning Using Sparls Algorithm

Authors: A. Ragavendiran, R. Gnanadass, K. Ramakrishnan

Abstract: Generators have to meet the change in real and reactive power demand of practical power system. The real power variations in the system are met out by the rescheduling process of the generators. But there is a huge trust to meet out the reactive power load demand. The excitation loop of the corresponding generator is adjusted with its electric limits to activate the reactive power of the network. To expedite the reactive power delivery, power system stabilizer (PSS) is connected in the exciter loop of the generator for various system conditions. In this paper, a new Sparse Recursive Least Square (SPARLS) algorithm is demonstrated to tune the power system stabilizer parameters to meet the vulnerable conditions. The proposed SPARLS algorithm makes use of expectation maximization (EM) updation to tune the PSS. A comparative study between the proposed SPARLS and RLS algorithm has been performed on single machine infinite bus system (SMIB). The simulation results obtained will validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and the impact of stability studies of the power system operation under disturbances. The SPARLS algorithm is also used to tune the parameters of PSS to achieve quicker settling time for the system parameter such as load angle, field voltage and speed deviation. It is found that the SPARLS is a better algorithm for the determination of optimum stabilizer parameter.

Title of the Paper: Economic Model Predictive Control for Power Plant Process

Authors: Aadaleesan Pakkiriswamy, Mayuri Sarma

Abstract: Economic model predictive control (EMPC) is a combined control strategy of real time optimization of time-varying process economics and a feedback Model Predictive Controller (MPC) to track the time-varying set-point. In this work, we focus on the two-layer integrated framework of EMPC for non-linear processes. The upper layer consists of an EMPC, carries out economic process optimization to obtain the optimal steady states. A Lyapunov based MPC (LMPC) in the lower layer is forced to operate on these steady states. The LMPC tracks the time varying set point by maintaining the closed loop system states in a predefined stable region. The improved economic performance of the non-processes is demonstrated through some closed-loop simulation for the optimal operation of a power plant.

Title of the Paper: Power System Middle-Term Load Forecasting Based on CEEMD with Fuzzy Entropy and Elman ANN

Authors: Xin-You Wany, Chen-Hua Wang, Le-Bin Bai, Zhan Qu

Abstract: In this paper, a new combination prediction approach was proposed and applied to improve the middle-term electric load forecasting precision. Firstly, the load sequences were decomposed into a limited number of load sub-temporal sequences with different characteristics, which avoids the large computing scale problems of local analysis of load series. Then, the Elman prediction models were constructed by the feature analysis for each sub-temporal sequence respectively. And the final prediction valves were given by the superposition of each sub sequences prediction. The approach is applied to EUNITE’s middle term load forecasting. A comparison of our approach to existing prediction methods is also given. Simulation results show that the new model proposed in this paper can significantly improve the load prediction accuracy.

Authors: Yang Jian-Feng, Wu Ting, Chen Jia-Xing

Abstract: For the existence of the dc side active power filter ripple voltage will directly affect the selection of dc side capacitor value problems, in order to improve the control precision and reduce the dc side voltage ripple as the goal, a kind of dc side APF ripple voltage proportional resonant (Proportional Resonance, PR) control method is put forward, using an improved harmonic detection method at the same time. Improved harmonic detection method is instead of low pass filter with integral delay gain module, increase the precision of harmonic filter and improve the system control precision. PR control method is used to join the resonant link, which makes PR controller in tracking the current instruction and can eliminate the steady-state error, thus reducing the ripple voltage, and solving the problem of the selection of the dc side capacitor in the actual engineering application. At last, a simulation experiment is done to verify the principle above.

Title of the Paper: Robustness and Fragility of Evolving Networks with a New Local Synchronization Preferential Mechanism

Authors: Detian Huang, Peizhong Liu, Jianeng Tang, Yuzhao Zhang

Abstract: In complex network, the preferential attachment mechanism which originated from the BA model is one of the essentials to improve the synchronizability. First of all, the synchronizability of a class of continuous-time dynamical networks is investigated in the paper. Then some local-world network models, such as the local-world networks, the local-world synchronization-optimal networks and the local-world node deleting evolving network, are introduced. And we have proposed a local-world synchronization-preferential growth topology model. The view have been validated that synchronizability is always improved as the maximum betweenness centrality is reduced. Furthermore, it has been found that the synchronizability of the dynamical network with the local-world synchronization-preferential mechanism is robust against not only the random removal of vertices but also the specific removal of those most connected vertices.

Authors: Jiguang Shao, Qiuyuan Wang

Abstract: By the transition probability flow graphs methods, we considered the distribution Gk(p), and derived its probability generating function. Based on Gk(p), we came to the probability distribution of NBk(r; p) and showed the correlation between them. Following NBk(r; p), we got the distribution of Bk(n; p), and then we discussed its some properties including the mean and convergence. Finally, we employed the properties to study a reliability question.

Authors: Li Gang, Jingfang Wang

Abstract: The PRM (probabilistic roadmap method) path planning algorithm is applied to the mobile robot path planning problem of limited environment. And a path optimization algorithm based on modified node enhancement strategies and geometric smoothing is proposed. The node enhancing method is used to optimize the initial planning with the base PRM algorithm, the original path nodes are gradually substituted by some new nodes, and the number of the inflection points of path will be reduced greatly. thus the length of path will be shorten. At the same time, a new strategy based on geometric optimization iS used to smooth the optimized path in order to achieve the purpose of smoothing the path. The simulation result shows that the algorithm can not only reduce the length of the searched path. but also greatly improve the smoothness of the path.

Title of the Paper: Research on the High-speed On/off Valve with High Pressure and Large Flow Rate Based on Phase Shift PWM Control

Authors: Xiaofei Lu, Binqu Yan, Shumei Chen, Chuanming Chen

Abstract: To reduce the chatter amplitude and widen the range of the effective duty cycle of the high-speed on/off valve in digital variable displacement pump systems, this paper presents a new strategy, phase shift PWM (PS-PWM) control strategy. The theoretical and simulation analysis results indicate that this strategy could improve the dynamic response speed and steady precision significantly. In addition, to improve the control precision and reduce the leakage under high pressure and large flow rate, a new type of high-speed on/off valve with two DOF of the spool is developed. The duty cycle of this valve is increased significantly, which reaches 0~90%. The floating compensation mechanism of this valve is designed to realize the wear self-compensation. So this valve can guarantee the high control precision, low leakage and high efficiency under high pressure and large flow rate.

Title of the Paper: Temporal-Spatial Optimal Tracking Control of Microwave Heating Process Based on the Spectral Galerkin Method

Authors: Jiaqi Zhong, Shan Liang, Yupeng Yuan, Qinyu Xiong

Abstract: Microwave heating, which is a novel and efficient heating method, has been gradually replacing traditional heating method in industrial application. However, the phenomenon of hotspots or thermal runaway is the major drawback for further development. Consequently, it is necessary to regulate the spatial temperature distribution with a reasonable input power. For traditional microwave heating partial differential equation (PDE) model, the inherent infinite-dimensional feature does not allow readily designing corresponding controller. Motivated by this obstruction, a finite-dimensional ordinary differential equation (ODE) model is developed to approximately describe the heating process with the help of spectral Galerkin method. Moreover, an optimal tracking controller with a constrained input is designed to improve the spatial temperature uniformity. Finally, the results of simulation on one-dimensional microwave cavity heating model are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed controller.

Title of the Paper: Nonlinear Differential Flatness Control of a Distributed PV-ES DC Generation System

Authors: Hua Xue, Haixia Li, Yufei Wang

Abstract: To overcome the intermittency problem, this paper proposes a novel nonlinear differential flatness control method for a distributed photovoltaic-energy storage (PV-ES) DC generation system. For high-power applications, four-phase parallel boost converters and four-phase parallel bidirectional converters are implemented as a PV converter and a storage device, respectively. For PV four-phase parallel boost converters, an improved extremum seeking algorithm is designed to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control and to satisfy the dynamic behavior of the system. For ES four-phase parallel bidirectional converters, an original nonlinear control law based on the flatness principle is proposed, which smoothes the output power and enhances the system stability under a load mutation or control parameter perturbation. To validate the proposed method, simulations are realized by simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink.

Abstract: There are multi-mode information such as randomness and uncertainty in the solar thermal power generation set thermal process. In this paper, aiming at this problem, clustering multi-model predictive control algorithm is applied to its control. Abstract: To prevent mass spoilage and considerable expenses of producer it is necessary to provide high quality insulation control during the cable manufacture. Current methods of in-process cable insulation control do not provide high quality of control separately. We present a complex method of cable insulation control, which allow us to combine the current methods constructively and increase quality of control. This method consists in measuring of the cable insulation capacity per unit length with applying of high test voltage. To develop the complex method of cable insulation control we carry out analysis of different parameters of technological process affecting the control results such as test voltage parameters, value of electric field intensity, material, temperature of insulation, state of insulation surface, process conditions of production line and offer the ways of decreasing these influences. Authors: Pavel Drábek, Martin Zálešák

Abstract: It is still a lingering practice to classify energy demands of buildings on the basis of thermal insulation properties of the building envelope, although, more aspects, which cannot be ignored, enter to the evaluation. Calculation of the impact the each aspect is necessary to perform on the basis of the thermal response of the room, which varies primarily by the thermal storage properties of construction materials. This article deals with the analysis of the possibility of regulating heating systems depending on heat accumulation properties of the building. Knowledge of these relationships creates appropriate premises for rational determination of the required thermal conditions for the internal environment under which is carries out the dimensioning the heating systems, heat sources, methods of regulation and optimization of the total heat consumption.

Title of the Paper: Control of FOPDT Process Using Sliding Mode Controller with Modified PI-D Sliding Surface

Authors: Jayabalan Arunshankar, Elumai Govinda Kumar

Abstract: This paper is about the design of a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC), with modified PI-D sliding surface, for the control of First Order Plus Dead Time (FOPDT) process. In the modified PI-D sliding surface, error is connected to the proportional and integral elements of the controller, and the derivative of the system output is connected to derivative element of the controller. The usage of PI-D sliding surface eliminates the discontinuous switching in SMC. In this work, the integro-differential equation used for representing the sliding surface of SMC is replaced with PI-D sliding surface. The controller designed is used to obtain the desired closed loop response of the FOPDT system considered, in simulation. The closed loop performance of SMC with integro-differential equation and SMC with PI-D sliding surface are compared.

Title of the Paper: Chaotic Prediction of Fluctuant Voltage Time Series in EAF Power Supply Grid

Authors: Wang Yufei, Zhang Jianyun, Xue Hua

Abstract: In order to solve the problem of voltage flicker produced by electric arc furnace (EAF) operation, it is a prerequisite to analyze the characteristics of voltage time series acquired from AC EAF power supply grid and to conduct voltage prediction based on chaos theory. In this paper, the voltage time series is firstly reconstructed in phase space to determine optimal delay time and embedding dimension and the maximum Lyapunov exponent (MLE) is computed to testify the chaotic characteristics of voltage fluctuation, which indicate the chaotic approach is feasible for voltage prediction. Then, the voltage is respectively predicted by MLE method and adding-weight one-rank local method. The comparison of the prediction result shows that the two methods both lead to good prediction effect, but the latter one is better in precision. Therefore, the adding-weight one-rank local method is more suitable to predict the fluctuant voltage of AC EAF power supply grid.

Title of the Paper: Optimal Design of Multivariable Controller for Nonlinear Systems Using Variable Population Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

Authors: Nasr A. Elkhateeb, R. I. Badr

Abstract: Artificial bee colony algorithms belong to the paradigm of bio-inspired, population-based, algorithms that have been widely used to solve optimization problems. These algorithms use population of individuals/particles/bees/ants in order to explore a search space of potential solutions to a given problem and to be able to quickly converge to a global solution, or at least to a good solution. The proposed paper uses a variable population of bees in order to improve the converge rate of the algorithm, as well as a dynamic control of the inertia of the bees in order to better control the exploration of the search space. The balance between exploitation and exploration of the search space is a well-known key feature for such optimization methods and many works have been devoted to improving the management of this balance: managing population, operators, and fitness functions. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, a comparison is made with the classic artificial bee colony and genetic algorithms in tuning the multivariable the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers. The proposed experimental study is the Distillation Column System (DCS) which represent control systems of complex industrial processes. Moreover, the DCS is known to be multivariable, time variant, nonlinear MIMO system with time delays. The experimental results show that the new algorithm performs better than classic approaches such as genetic algorithm and classic artificial bee colony algorithm.

Title of the Paper: The Effect of Environmental Information Disclosure on Firms’ Market Value : Empirically Comparative Study from Panel Data of Heavy-Pollution Industries in China

Authors: Shaozhong Yu, Kai Chang

Abstract: This article proposes empirically comparative study of the effect of environmental information disclosure on market value of listed firms using unbalanced panel data samples in Chinese heavy-pollution industries. Environmental information disclosure (EID) is mutually causal relationship with market value of listed firms, environmental information disclosure has a significant impact on market value of listed firms at the 90% significant level. Environmental information disclosure has a significantly positive impact on market value of listed firms in coal-oil-gas mining and steel industries at the 90% significant level. However EID is negatively related with market value of listed firms in thermal-electronic, nonferrous metals, chemical, construction and building-materials and textile-garment -leather industries at the 90% significant level. Compared with their effects of EID on market value of listed firms, listed firms in coal-oil-gas mining and steel industries with significantly positive effects voluntarily disclose more environmental information than listed firms in other heavy-pollution industries with negative effects. From the fixed effects coefficients of panel data, the intercept effects EID on market value of listed firms have obviously periodic divergence from 2008 to 2012.
