In addition, the network, wired, wireless and optical become more sophisticated and deliver incredible bandwidth. What this means is that information, data, voice and video, over the network, from the first mile to the last mile, is more sensitive and it opens the appetite for malicious attackers. Therefore, in addition to information security, network security becomes of importance. This presentation will highlight aspects of modern intelligent networks, information security and quantum cryptography, as well as network security.     PLENARY LECTURE II:   New horizons in data partitioning via high dimensional model representation   Professor Metin Demiralp Full Member of Turkish Academy of Sciences also with the Informatics Institute, Istanbul Technical University, Turkey http://kullanici.be.itu.edu.tr/~demiralp/homepage/index.html   Abstract: High Dimensional Model Representation (HDMR) is a recently developed powerful approach to the approximation of multivariate functions. It is based on an ordering in ascending multivariance. That is, the first component of the representation is a constant which is the simplest function structure and the following terms are univariate functions depending on different independent variables, bivariate functions depending on different couples of independent variables and so on. HDMR was first proposed by Sobol and based on unit hypercubic geometry having origin as one of the corners and unit weight function in the integration which was used in the construction of the representation components. HDMR contains a finite number of terms and requires the imposition of certain conditions on these terms to get uniqueness. Sobol proposed the vanishing conditions on the HDMR components such that each component except the constant one was assumed to be vanishing when it is integrated over one of its arguments in the interval corresponding to the unit hypercubic geometry (that is, between 0 and 1). Rabitz extended this notion to the hyper-prismatic geometry located anywhere and the weight functions differing than 1. Demiralp noticed the relation between the vanishing conditions and the orthogonality amongst the HDMR components. The weight functions as linear combinations of Dirac’s delta functions located at different positions have been extensively used by Demiralp’s group and allowed us to process multivariate data sets by partitioning them to sets of univariate data within a first approximation remaining valid when the function under consideration is basically additive. In this lecture a novel approach for the partitioning of a data set whose elements are distributed amongst a regular hyperprismatic grid is presented. The locations of the nodes and the values of the function given at these nodes are assumed to have uncertainties. Talk will focus on how these uncertainties are reflected to the constant and univariate components of HDMR. To this end, a somehow pessimistic bound analysis will be employed to get bands for these components. The univariate interpolation techniques will also be mentioned to get continuous structure for the function given through the data set.     PLENARY LECTURE III:   A Trend on Regularization and Model Selection in Statistical Learning: A Perspective from Bayesian Ying Yang Learning Professor Lei Xu Department of Computer Engineering Chinese University of Hong Kong lxu@cse.cuhk.edu.hk   Abstract: Advances on regularization and model selection in statistical learning have been summarized, and a trend has been discussed from a Bayesian Ying Yang learning perspective. After briefly introducing Bayesian Ying-Yang system and best harmony learning, not only its advantages of automatic model selection and of integrating regularization and model selection have been addressed, but also its differences and relations to existing typical learning methods have been discussed and elaborated. Kaskalis 534-823       TUTORIAL     University Networking Through the Amateur Radio Communications   Mr. Miroslav Skoric   Abstract: The tutorial begins with basic information about the amateur radio communications and continues with studying one of the most popular computer-related radio communication modes: the VHF/UHF and HF “packet-radio” (other popular modes, like “amtor”, “pactor”, “g-tor”, “clover” etc. are also mentioned as the options). The tutorial discusses (with examples) on how to choose hardware and software needed for establishing the amateur radio links – from either home or work – and how to maintain them at low cost. Finally, the tutorial leads the audience to build an AMUNET – the Amateur Radio University Network – a grid of radio stations within or between universities’ campuses and surrounding schools.
